Idaho Community Action Network

About the Program

In an effort to create a network of trained advocates that speak out to protect social safety net programs, the Idaho Hunger Relief Task Force newly developed the Idaho Community Action Network (I-CAN). The goal of the I-CAN program is to empower community members with lived hunger experience and/or safety net expertise to stand up for their rights and speak out on their own behalf.

In partnership with Hunger Free America, the Task Force works to equip I-CAN members with the skills and knowledge needed to be effective leaders and champions for those in need. Through public speaking, policy analysis, and engagement with elected officials, we strive to ensure that every voice is heard and that the most vulnerable among us are protected and represented.

I-CAN members will take part in a series of trainings and leadership development opportunities hosted by the Task Force. These trainings may focus on the basics of government and legislative processes, communication techniques and public speaking, and letter writing and phone banking. Out of the utmost respect for the knowledge and insight people with lived experience bring to the I-CAN program, members will be compensated for their time and expertise.

Interested in joining? Submit the I-CAN application, and a member of the Task Force will be in touch!
